Nashville Jazz Workshop “Jazzmania”
Saturday, October 19, 6:00 pm
at Liberty Hall & The Heritage Room

Jazzmania is the Nashville Jazz Workshop’s Annual Jazz Party and Fundraiser. All proceeds benefit the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and go to support the Workshop’s mission of enriching people’s lives through classes, performances, and special events for the community.

Jazzmania is the Jazz Party of the Year, with great live jazz from some of the city’s finest musicians.

This year’s artist lineup is sensational! Headlining the bill is the Gerald Clayton Quartet. The son of legendary bassist John Clayton, Gerald Clayton has already carved a niche for himself at the top ranks of jazz piano. A Grammy-nominated instrumentalist and composer, Clayton has recorded and toured with his own groups and with such jazz greats as Charles Lloyd, Terrell Stafford, Diana Krall, the Clayton Brothers, and many more. Clayton’s previous visit to Nashville in 2018 was a stunning solo piano concert at Belmont University.

Jazzmania also includes a live and silent auction, with unique and desirable items. The Silent Auction features the Small Works art collection along with many dining and entertainment packages and unique experiences. The Live Auction features fabulous items and packages, including vacation packages, special dinner and concert experiences, and beautiful original artwork. Stay tuned for details!

Another special element of Jazzmania is the the NJW Heritage Award, presented annually to a person who has made major contributions to the jazz community over an extended time. Congratulations to last year’s winner, Jeff Coffin!

Please join us on October 19 for great music, food, and more!

Night of Grief & Mystery Concert
Sunday, October 20, 7:00 pm
at The Mockingbird Theater

Friends are forged on the dark road headed out of town.

And so we head there again, sojourning across the continent in the name of psychic sanity and spiritual resolve in these most troubled and troubling of times.

These are nights in which love letters to life are written and read aloud. There’s some boldness in them. They have that tone. These nights have the mark of our time upon them, and they’re timely, urgent, alert, steeped in mortal mystery. They’re quixotic. They have swagger. What would you call such a thing? We call them Nights of Grief & Mystery.

Part poetry, part lamentation, part book reading, part ribaldry, part concert, part lifting the mortal veil and learning the mysteries there…that’s what’s in store.

The doors are pried at night’s end, and still many linger and can’t leave or won’t, and there is something like victory in the air, and a weary, luminous midnight rumour that, people heretofore unknown to each other, can still join for the sake of the young among them and for the world entrusted to them, and that the Mercies count us kin, and that wonder is the currency of the Gods.

Hope Grows Benefit
Tuesday, October 22, 6:00 pm
at Jamison Theater

Presented by the Refuge Center for Counseling. This event is our single most important fundraiser that provides us with the support needed to advance our mission of providing affordable, professional counseling services in order to empower, educate, and support individuals, couples and families in need. We also honor a member of the Middle Tennessee community who exemplifies our values with our annual Hope Award. We were honored to present our 2018 Hope Award to Taj and Eddie George.

We are thrilled to welcome Grammy-award winning artists Jars of Clay as our musical guest. The Nashville-based Christian rock band achieved resounding success in the field of Christian alternative rock by infusing creativity with religion, music with scripture, and a distinctive musical style with traditional viewpoints. They broke into mainstream radio, video, and retail in 1996, and sold millions of records since their debut. The band’s name was inspired by the II Corinthians 4:7 verse in the Bible that reads, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” The verse, which refers to the frailty of humanity and our earthly bodies, is also the lyric of the song “Four Seven” on the band’s debut release.
